Introducing The Post-Op
If you work in healthcare, someone may have told you healthcare is not a $4T industry, but 100 $40B industries, 1,000 $4B industries, or somewhere in between. This concept has always intrigued me, but how do we define “industry”? It could be a segment (like a provider), a product (like an EMR), a geography (since healthcare is local), or a condition (like diabetes).
What is The Post-Op
Healthcare can be technical, nuanced, and even illogical at times, and with so many “industries within an industry”, it’s hard to know where to start when trying to learn. I hope The Post-Op will present a new approach to learning about healthcare by assessing one condition (and the multi-billion dollar industry accompanying it) at a time.
Why you should read The Post-Op
We are inundated with content (both healthcare and non-healthcare), so I wanted to explain why The Post-Op is worth your time.
Anthology-ifying the newsletter: Each condition will be broken down via a mini-series format comprising of 5+ distinct parts released each week.
Keeping it short: I will do my very best to limit each part to ~1,500 words. That’s only ~5 minutes of reading time each week!
Starting with the basics: Part 1 of each mini-series will explain what the condition is and how it is treated. Part 2 will dig into the key players driving the business behind the condition. After laying the foundation, Part 3 onwards will dive into more nuanced topics.
Whether an investor, operator, clinician, advisor, product builder, etc., I believe each condition has unique lessons related to business, technology, and/or policy to teach us as healthcare professionals.
The Post-Op is now here to open it all up in a digestible, thought-provoking and hopefully enjoyable manner.
Part 1 of the mini-series on end-stage renal disease (ESRD) drops next week. Subscribe below!
